Here are some videos that illustrate elements of Effective Communication
Overview of the Tracking Process:
Tracking is the Effective Listening approach that allows the listener to “decode” the hidden messages in a speaker’s words and establish a heart-to-heart connection.
Anger is the Tip of the Iceberg
When we feel anger, it is just the tip of the iceberg. When peeling back what is underneath, we discover there are more fundamental emotions that lead to the anger. Understanding this is important when tracking someone expressing anger, since it will uncover those underlying emotions. This is also important to understand about ourselves, so we can “self-track” to find the feelings beneath our own anger, when it arises.
Blame
This excellent excerpt and animation from a talk by Brené Brown about blame. Can you see how her husband could have tracked her when he called instead of hanging up? How would you have tracked in that situation?
